Today's Mississippi state flag has the state flower, the magnolia, in the center. A gold star above the flower represents Native American tribes, and the 20 smaller stars symbolize the fact that Mississippi was the 20th state admitted to the USA. The phrase "In God We Trust" appears below the flower.
